Golden State Warriors trade Monte Ellis to Milwaukee

Monte Ellis Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade Monte Ellis, forward Ekpe Udoh and center Kwame Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson. This will be Stephen Jackson’s second stint with Golden State the first coming in 2007 when he helped lead the team’s only playoff run since 1994.  Prior to the trade Bogut fractured his left ankle Jan. 25 and it’s not clear if he’ll be able to return this season.  It’s one of several significant injuries that have plagued Bogut throughout his career.

My first impressions of the trade is that the Warriors didn’t recieve equal value in return for Ellis, as they traded a all star caliber player in return for a injury prone big man. Although the Warriors are in desperate need of a center and when Bogut is healthy he has the ability to be a force in the paint, the main concern is keeping him healthy and on the floor. Also it seems strange that Milwaukee would do this trade as now they will have the same problem the Warriors were faced with, in that  they will be playing with a small back court with Brandon Jennings and Monte Ellis. This is going to be interesting in seeing how this trade works out for both clubs.

Stoudemire expected to return Monday

New York Knicks Amare Stoudemire

Amare Stoudemire is expected to return to the New York Knicks on Monday. Stoudemire left for Florida two days ago to mourn the loss of his brother, Hazell, who died in a car crash Monday morning. He missed that night’s game against Utah and will miss Wednesday’s game against the Wizards in Washington, Friday’s home game against the Los Angeles Lakers and Saturday’s game at Minnesota. Coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters in Washington that Stoudemire should be back for Monday’s practice. If Stoudemire returns then, he will most likely suit up for Tuesday’s road game against Toronto.

Chauncey Billups suffers torn achilles, Out for the season

b

Los Angeles Clippers starting guard Chauncey Billups suffered a torn left Achilles tendon Monday night and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday. This is a huge blow for a team that had it hopes on reaching the finals this year. Billups who was averaging 14.9 points and 4.0 assists in 20 starts with the team will be extremely hard to replace not only because of the numbers he was putting up but also the leadership and experience he brought  to the team.
